The story of German Pyramids:

Christmas pyramids originated in the Erzgebirge region of Germany by miners. These miners turned to woodcarving as work in the mining industry declined. At one time these hand carved pyramids were called "the poor man's tree" since many families could not afford a real Christmas tree. The first pyramids started with tree carvings and shelves with various figurines and candles at the base. The light of the candles represented the safe return of the miners. Later a rod, pyramid topper, and pyramid blades were added to the overall pyramid. Now when the candles were lit the heat of the candles would rise to turn the pyramids blades which then turned the pyramid shelves (decorated with nativity scenes, miners, angels, etc.). Today competitions are held in Europe for the best Christmas pyramid.

All pyramids are hand crafted in Germany by craftsmen of the Erzgebirge region. Each piece or figure is carefully carved and painted and attached to the pyramid itself. This fine craftsmanship can truly be appreciated.
